KAZENERGY at World Petroleum Congress in Istanbul

The KAZENERGY Association of oil, gas and energy sector organizations took part in the meeting of the 22th World Petroleum Congress (WPC) held on July 9-13, 2017 in Istanbul by the World Petroleum Council. 

The World Petroleum Congress, which is the global gathering place for the leaders and the most important event in oil and gas industry, is held every three years in order to discuss the recent trends and methods of managing the world oil and gas field. 

The Kazakhstan delegation was represented by the Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbayev, the Deputy Chairman of KAZENERGY Association the Jambulat Sarsenov, the Executive Director of KAZENERGY Association Ramazan Zhampiissov, the Deputy General Director of NCOC consortium Zhakyp Marabayev, and the General Director of PSA LLP Murat Zhurebekov. 

The congress was attended by 6000 delegates from 1500 oil and gas companies, representing 119 countries. WPC program provides holding of Ministerial sessions, panel discussions, plenary meetings, roundtables, meetings of expert groups. 

Before the work of the Congress, the meetings of the Executive Committee and the Council, which is the general meeting of WPC members, were held. The Kazakhstan delegation took part in the meeting, in which the annual reports of the executive bodies and WPC program committee on the activities over the past three years were heard. 

The program of the 22th World Petroleum Congress included technical sessions, reports, presentations, forums and consists of several theme modules: “Oil and gas production”, “Oil refining, oil chemistry, transportation, marketing”, “Natural gas: production technologies, transportation, markets”, “Management, HR policy, information technologies and security, geopolicy”. 

The Kazakhstan National Committee, represented by Zhakyp Marabayev as the co-chairman of the session “Development of oil and gas mega projects”, spoke about the development of the giant Kashagan field operated by NCOC and located on the Kazakh side of the Caspian Sea. 

Management of WPC expressed gratitude for the fruitful and effective work of the Kazakhstan National Committee, chaired by the Chairman of KAZENERGY Association Timur Kulibayev. 

Dzhambulat Sarsenov, Deputy Chairman of KAZENERGY Association, elected Vice President for Marketing and the Member of the Executive Committee of WPC, underlined the importance of participation of oil and gas giants in the work of the congress and expressed hope for the inflow of the large number of companies from Kazakhstan in future in order to demonstrate its strategies at the most prestigious global oil event. 

At the event KAZENERGY took the opportunity to present the ALASH Unified Database to the other member countries, to outline the important role of a Local Content Database in the Oil and Gas sector. The presentation was well received, with other member countries showing interest in the development of a system for local content.
