A New City for Kazakhstan

In a series of lectures in Astana during a “green policies” workshop, Nobel Prize for economics and Director of the Department on Environment and Development of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Rae Kwon Chung, proposed the Kazakhstani Government to follow the example of the United Arab Emirates, and create an eco-city which will be fully maintained by alternative sources of energy.

The city of Masdar, located near Abu Dhabi, is only the last in a series of cities around the world that is completely free of carbon fuels.Governments around the world are preparing for the new era, which will see green policies being heavily incremented.

According to Mr. Chung Kazakhstan has all conditions for transition to "green" economy because it was able to achieve some economic success within 20 years. The transition from traditional model of economy to the "green" one requires a long period of time, from 10 to 20 years, however Kazakhstan has a strong political will, derived from its ideologist President Nazabarayev. Mr Chung concluded by saying “This is a very powerful and effective condition when the head of state supports new and innovative trends in the world”.

The EXPO in Astana is less than six months away, and Kazakhstan is ready to promote the huge impact of green policies on energy security in the world.
